Joe F. Durgin was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's in 2011. At first, he was able to spend his days alone with the help of his youngest son, Kyle, while his wife, Marlene, was working. However, due to the disease's natural progression and the family's lack of a full-time caregiver, their middle child, Bryn, moved the more than 300 miles from Manhattan back to rural New York to help take care of her increasing ill father. This is one family's journey through non-traditional caregiving in the United States, something that affects more than 300,000 families nation wide. This video was filmed and produced by Watertown Daily Times staff photographer, Sydney Schaefer.
